Guest Recipe: Sophie's Crete brûlée French toast casserole

When Sophie told me about her Breakfast, I had to post it. She is pure brilliant!

This is a good recipe for a lazy morning!

6-7 dinner rolls -brioche preferred and stale is best!
3 eggs
3/4 cup half and half or mixture of half and half and milk
1-2 T. Sugar
1/2 cup cream cheese frosting-leftovers from a cake or something
Brown sugar, 1/2 cup

Fruit or berry topping

Whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, and sugar together. Butter an 8 by 8 inch pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pull bread into pieces and layer them in pan with frosting and egg mixture, the top layer should be the bread and then finished off with the egg mixture. Make sure the egg mixture absorbs into the bread, shake the pan and smush the bread down to insure this ( or let it sit overnight). Top with some pieces of butter and bake until puffed up, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, put brown sugar on a cookie sheet in a thin layer. Bake in the same oven for 10 min., stirring once to insure even baking. Cool the brown sugar, put in gallon bag and roll with a rolling pin until fine. When casserole is done, pull it out of the oven and turn on broiler to high. Sprinkle a thin layer of brown sugar on the top and broil top rack for 3-5 min until sugar has carmelized. Serve immediately with fruit. Bon appetit!
